Nouveau Monde : Fall 2013 Drilling Results From the Matawinie Property

28 January 2014 -

GATINEAU, QUEBEC (Marketwired – Jan. 28, 2014) – Nouveau Monde Mining Enterprises Inc. (“Nouveau Monde”) (TSX VENTURE:NOU) is pleased to report positive results of the fall 2013 drilling program on the Matawinie graphite Property (or the “Property”) located in the St-Michel-des-Saints area, some 140 km North of Montreal, Québec. The late October to late November drill campaign consisted of 19 BQ size drill holes totaling 1505 m. The program was designed to test two distinct multi-kilometric electromagnetic anomalies referred to as “Ti-Nou” and “Gros-Nou” (see PR dated Oct 23rd 2013). A total of 192 split core samples, averaging 1 m in length, were analyzed for graphitic carbon (or “Cg”) and sulfur (or “S”) content. Of these, 112 samples returned significant Cg results (> 5% Cg). All of the 19 drill holes, with the exception of hole TN-12, displayed mineralized intersections over 4 % Cg measuring a minimum of 1 m in length. The ten most significant intersections grading over 5% Cg over 5 m are reported in the table below. The highest assay result was obtained in hole GN-5 which returned a 1 m intersection grading 24.6 % Cg. A total of 11 core holes were drilled on the Ti-Nou area along the main linear electromagnetic anomaly. The distance between the easternmost and westernmost holes span a length of approximately 1385 m. The 8 drill holes located on the Gros-Nou anomaly cover an area of approximately 360 m by 640 m. Concurrent to the drill campaign, a trenching program was initiated over shallow (<15 m) electromagnetic targets defined by an innovative time-domain electromagnetic technology developed and tested in partnership with Nouveau Monde and referred to as the PhiSpy system. Grab samples were collected from these trenches as well as on a few outcrops along the multi-kilometric conductors. Of the 17 samples collected, 12 samples returned over 5 % Cg with the best result returning 14.95 % Cg. A compilation map of the significant results from the work performed on the Ti-NOU and Gros-NOU areas can be downloaded here Table 1: Summary of significant graphitic carbon drill core intersections (Cg >5% and minimum intersection of 5 m in length)

*** All core sample carbon analyses were performed by ALS Minerals Laboratories and delivered as graphitic carbon (Cg), internal analytical code C-IR18.

NEXT EXPLORATION PHASE Due to the very positive results of the fall exploration drilling and trenching campaign, Nouveau Monde will initiate a definition drilling program during Q1 and Q2-2014 with the objective of completing a NI 43-101 compliant resource calculation on the high grade zone surrounding the Ti-NOU showing. QUALITY CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE The drilling and subsequent sampling was supervised by consulting geologist Antoine Cloutier, géo, B.Sc, A strict protocol including the insertion of duplicate and blank samples within the sample stream was adopted as part of a quality assurance, quality control (or QA/QC) program. Both duplicate and blank sample results returned within acceptable limits. All samples were washed and individually bagged prior to shipping. Samples were analyzed for graphitic carbon (Cg) content by a LECO analyzer (ALS code; C-IR18) at the ALS Minerals laboratory located in North Vancouver (B-C), Canada. This laboratory is accredited with the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 17025 certifications. Total sulfur (or “S”) as well as total carbon (or “C”) was also analyzed by ALS Minerals using a LECO analyzer (ALS laboratory codes; S-IR08 and C-IR07 respectively). MATAWINIE PROPERTY The Matawinie Property consists of six groups of claims located about 140 km north of Montreal. The claims are contained within a 50 km radius just North of St-Michel-des-Saints in the Matawinie regional county municipality, Province of Québec. Nouveau Monde has an option to acquire 100% interest in the property (see February 12th 2013 press release for details). These claims are located at the Eastern limit of the highly prospective Central Metasedimentary belt of the Grenville geological province at a trucking distance from Timcal’s Lac des Iles mine, currently Canada’s only producing graphite mine. A summary of the results from the exploration work carried out by Nouveau Monde on the Matawinie property since its discovery in 2013 is outlined below:

  • Completion of a regional heliborne MAG-TDEM survey over an area of 60 km radius that allowed the definition of roughly 15 km of conductive material distributed amongst six claim blocks early in spring 2013.
  • Systematic ground follow up prospecting campaigns using portable geophysical tools permitted the discovery of 10 different graphite showings with grade above 5% Cg on the A, D, E and Ti-Nou blocks early during summer 2013.
  • The discoveries of the Ti-Nou and Gros-Nou showings in the lac Cousineau area on which five grab samples graded above 15% Cg and are coincident with two conductive anomalies measuring approximately 2,000 m by 250 m and 2,000 m by 1,000 m during summer 2013.
  • 5 m long channel sample cut across foliation (open in both directions) in the trench TN-TR01 on the Ti-Nou showing with average grade of 15.16% Cg during summer 2013.
  • Drill hole TN-01 sunk on the Ti-Nou showing with an intersection of 17.32 m starting at surface grading 12.2% Cg including a section of 13.9m at 13.4% Cg late during summer 2013.
  • Metallurgical work was made by SGS Lakefield (released on November 6th2013) on material collected from the 5m long TN-TR01. SGS Lakefield measured 18.2% Ct in the raw material and was successful in producing a graphite concentrate pure at 95.9% Ct containing an average of 17.9% jumbo flakes larger than 48 mesh and 44.9% larger than 100 mesh.
